The word syncretism derives from the greek “συγκρητισμός”. The term appears for the first time in "De brotherly love", by Plutarch.
The Latin word passed sincretismus to indicate trends eclectic and reconcile between different schools of thought in the modern sense of "fusion".
In modern times, the term syncretism has spread thanks to the New Age, but the actual meaning of the term should not be confused with the interpretation that this movement attributes. For purposes of syncretism is important to the effective engagement in research within the inner doctrines of reference shared by choice or cultural affinity.
The term syncretism has also recently been used in art. In this case it gives the term a broad meaning, namely, synthesis of styles, shapes and languages that to intervene creative in generating new ideas and new research paths for the world of Art.
